A possible solution to a problem world wide
One solution out of many
Self Harm
Is often referred as self injury and it is where one harms the outside/ exterior of their own body and hurting themselves and is not typically meant as a suicide attempt.
Background Info on Project
Our problem my group and I choose was on self harm. We got a few websites where we annotated and shared what we got and so then came up with a few possible solutions. Then with all the ideas for solutions we were thinking of, we choose one that seemed the best solution. Our final idea/ solution was a goody bag and I will explain why.
Research
So the information we got were mostly that people did not know how to cope with emotions, pain distracts. Thinks they are alone and suffering emotionally could lead to self hurting. When people self hurt most of the time they do not do it to kill themselves but distract themselves although they can kill themselves by accident and going too far, they are risking their lives and it is dangerous. Anxiety and stress makes them want to hurt themselves and not knowing how to cope with those emotions. Other reasons is self punish, express/ communicate, confusion (as in they might not know why they are doing it), shifts pain from mentally to physically, judged while they are still discovering themselves, depression, self hatred, mental illness, specific traumatic events, several semi traumatic events, self normalization, pressure/ too much stress, stressful situations, negative thoughts or worries, addictions like drug abuse and/ or alcoholism, seize control over body, release tension, return from numbness, and experience Euphoria.
Why a Goody Bag?
Well, it is because it is simple and you can have something immediate to distract from problems and distract from thoughts for a bit and possibly prevent hurting oneself. It mostly depends on the person to have control, so this helps a bit to help them relax and distracts from problems in a better way than self harming. There would be 3 goody bags. Why 3? Well because every one is different, no one is the same. So what may work for others might not work for everyone.
Goody bag 1 Contains the following and why:
Inspirational book (some positivity, so no negative thoughts on problem and encouraging advice to help), small card with a picture and a quote (might help calm down with the picture and distract), worry stone (to seize control of something and touch something and not hurt oneself), infinity puzzle (to distract), play doh (to play with instead of hurt oneself), small treats (mini chocolate box, lollipops) (helps relax), stress ball (helps put frustration in something and not upon self), and a small journal (a booklet to write in w/ a pencil, 5x6) (helps express yourself)
Goody bag 2 contains following and why:
Buckyballs (to put frustration in and distract), small card with a picture and a quote (to calm with nice picture), monochrome Puzzle Cube (to try to distract), helicone (to help distract from problems), worry stone (to touch something to sooth), infinity puzzle (distraction), small treats (mini chocolate box, lollipops) (relaxing), and stress ball (frustration in something instead of hurting oneself)
Goody bag 3 contains following and why:
Worry stone (soothing for most), play-doh (distracting), mini journal (express self), helicone (distract and soothes), art kit (express self), buckyballs (distracts), infinity puzzle (distracts and entertains), small card with picture and quote (positivity) (distracts from negative thoughts, also encouraging), stress ball (something to put frustration in and have with u), small treats (relaxing/ calming), and monochrome Puzzle Cube (distraction)
Info on goody bags if decided to progress project and spread solution:
Most of the stuff is used through out the goody bags in different orders. Every one is different so different things will work for different people. The goody bags if we were to do further work on it we would/ could possibly give a few in a counseling office and doctors and they would give you a week trial and then you would return it and see if it worked/ helped out. Could buy for others and yourself and first get a free trial for a week then decide to buy. But we are just going to stop here at the concept of this possible solution and not progress it further, we did not get the chance to test if it would work for a few people. Below shows the following data said and explained. It shows the data me and my group came up with using research.

Reflection
This was a good project, I really liked the research part and being able to choose the problem we wanted to solve and be able to come up with a solution. I think one pitfall was that we still got off a bit on our Ghantt chart and lost track of schedule but we at least finished it. Another pitfall was that we got a bit too distracted, but not often. We were able to go back on the topic and not get too distracted. A good part is we were able to decide on a problem, we discussed and worked as a team to figure out the best solution we thought, and explain why and present.
